SARALAND, AL. Police have reported that a 15-year-old stole a man’s car out of a Saraland parking lot, and police were able to catch up to it and engaged in a short pursuit before the vehicle crashed.
Police said that the teen found the keys in a white Volvo while the man was inside a store and decided to take the car for a joyride.
The boy drove into Chickasaw, where police tried to stop him for a traffic violation, but at the time, officers did not know that the vehicle had been stolen.
Minutes later, Saraland Police said they received a call from the man saying his car was stolen.
The teen then went onto Highway 158 and continued fleeing onto the overpass on Highway 45 at I-65, where he crashed, according to Saraland police.
The teen was injured during the crash, and he was taken to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The juvenile is facing a felony charge for the theft of the vehicle and multiple other charges for the pursuit.
