A Starbucks employee in Tillman is still in shock after being bitten by a monkey while serving a customer.

Mobile police responded after a customer’s pet primate leaped from the vehicle and through the service window and began biting the employee’s arm and head at the business located on Rangeline Road near Halls Mill Road.

According to police, another employee was able to grab the animal and toss it back out the window.

The employee required stitches and vaccinations after the bizarre attack.

The incident occurred on Friday, January 10th at around 8:30 a.m. according to officers with the Mobile Police Department.

The customer and the monkey fled the area before the police arrived.

The Mobile County Health Department (MCHD) was notified of the animal bite.

Police say that the person could face criminal charges if officers are able to identify her.

The employee said the staff was in shock because they weren’t expecting the monkey to jump from the car. She said the monkey began biting harder and hitting her, then ran up her arm and jumped onto her head.

Mobile County Health Officer Dr. Kevin Michaels said that the monkey was a young Aotus Monkey, also known as “Night” or “Owl” monkey.
