Speeding Offense Quickly Turns to a Police Pursuit and Crash

MOBILE, AL. A traffic violation quickly went from a ticket to a pursuit through the streets of Mobile and eventually onto the interstate.
Police reported that on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, at approximately 4:07 a.m., officers patrolling the area of Interstate 10 and Broad Street observed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed.
Officers attempted a traffic stop; however, the vehicle accelerated and continued fleeing.
The vehicle became disabled after the driver crashed into a concrete drainage structure.
Police quickly took the driver into custody and the subject, later identified as Randy McCovery, 33, was evaluated by Mobile Fire-Rescue personnel.
McCovery was taken into custody and transported to Metro Jail.
He has been charged with Felony Attempting to Elude Law Enforcement and several traffic offenses.
