Shelby County Pursuit, Crash, Kills 2
SHELBY COUNTY, Ala.

Law enforcement attempting to stop a vehicle near Birmingham was led on a pursuit Saturday, January 11 at around 8:30 p.m. that ended in a serious crash that left two people dead.
“Tyrek C. Howard, 22, of Helena, was fatally injured when the 2021 Nissan Altima he was driving was struck by the 2019 Chevrolet Camaro driven by Elias Ismael Trejo Andino, 21, of Homewood,” police said.
“After the initial crash, the Chevrolet overturned. Andino was not using a seat belt at the time of the crash and was ejected and pronounced deceased at the scene.
The Nissan left the roadway and struck several trees.”
The Alabama State Troopers said the two vehicles collided in the northbound lanes about a mile or so from the Cahaba Valley Road exit.
According to police, Howard was not using a seat belt at the time of the crash, was ejected and was pronounced deceased at the scene. A passenger in the Nissan, Jazmine A. Davis, 22, of Montevallo, was critically injured and transported to UAB Hospital in Birmingham for treatment.
“Prior to the crash, Andino was attempting to elude officers with the Alabaster Police Department, deputies with the Shelby County Sherriff’s Office and Troopers assigned to the ALEA Highway Patrol Division,” police said.
The crash occurred on Interstate 65 near the 245-mile marker, within Pelham city limits, in Shelby County.
The Alabama State Troopers did not state why police were trying to stop the vehicle.
Nothing further is available as ALEA Troopers continue to investigate.
The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency is continuing their investigation.
