Person Commits Suicide in Front of Thomas Hospital

UPDATE: We have confirmed that the person was a military veteran who went to the hospital and committed suicide out front. We are not releasing his name.
This is the third suicide in Fairhope in recent months.
FAIRHOPE, Ala. At approximately 1:20 a.m. Wednesday morning, April 29th, 2026, a person arrived at Thomas Hospital and fatally shot himself in the head.
EMS personnel and hospital staff immediately began treating the person who appeared to be in critical condition.
Fairhope police responded to the hospital and began an investigation.
The Fairhope Fire Department were also dispatched to the front of the hospital.
We have been told this morning by someone familiar with the shooting that the patient did not survive but we cannot confirm this at this time.
We have also been told by a family member that the man lived in Bay Minette and worked in Fairhope and that he was a military veteran.
