STAPLETON, Ala. A tragic situation unfolded on Monday just before 1 p.m., in a wooded area in this quiet town.
Just before 1 p.m. on May 4th, 2026, an emergency call came into the Baldwin County 911 communications center explaining that a person was dying from a heart attack on Noel Street.
As the Stapleton Fire Department and an ambulance responded to the home, the emergency responders soon learned that the person was possibly deceased but not from a heart attack but rather from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office was immediately dispatched to assist the other first responders.
Stapleton firefighters found the person, about a quarter of mile into the woods still holding a gun and sheriff deputies soon arrived.
Currently, the shooting appears to be a suicide, but the sheriff’s office is investigating.
We are not releasing the person’s name at this time.
