“Organized Retail Crime” Investigation Leads To Arrest of Store Manager

GRAND BAY, Ala.
What’s known as “Organized Retail Crime” where multiple people participate together to steal large quantities of products from retailers has been on the rise nationwide for a dozen years and that includes right here, in Alabama.
One of the most recent cases of the crime involved employees of a Dollar General Store, their friends, and families according to the Mobile County Sheriff’s Office.
What started with MCSO investigators investigating some thefts at the store soon snowballed into a major retail theft case.
MCSO was contacted about the possible Organized Retail Theft ring that was stealing products at the Dollar General Store located at 10477 Ramsey Road in Grand Bay, Alabama.
The Dollar General Store opened on March 26, 2023. The first year an audit revealed the store had lost at least $289,011.05 worth of inventory. In March of 2024 to September 25, 2024, an additional audit showed a loss of $96,235.00. The total amount of inventory loss is $385,246.05.
MCSO Detectives went through countless hours of video and identified five (5) people believed to be involved with this crime.
On October 31, 2024, the Mobile County Sheriff’s Office arrested five (5) individuals and additional arrests could follow.
All five (5) have been charged with Organized Retail Theft.
Two employees who worked at the store were identified as Brittany Forrest, who was an Assistant Manager, and Calie Kent who was a store associate.
The other three were either friends or family members of the two arrested and have been identified as Carl Kent, Ophia Gordan, iIrial Forrest.
The Mobile County Sheriff’s Office has not ruled out more arrests in this case.
