Mobile Police Charge Grand Bay Man in Fentanyl Overdose Death

The Mobile police and fire departments responded to a call regarding a person needing medical assistance area of Alba Street and Bascombe Street.
Police said that on Sunday, February 23, 2025, when officers arrived, the Mobile Fire Rescue was already on the scene with a male victim for an apparent overdose.
The victim, identified as Derrick Kyles Jr., 25, was transported to a local hospital where he died later that night.
Police investigators looking into the death discovered that a male subject, later identified as Javonte Johnson, 26, of Grand Bay, gave the victim a substance alleged to have contained fentanyl.
On Tuesday, February 25, 2025, Johnson was arrested and transported to Metro Jail.
