Mobile Corrections Officer Attacked by Inmate With a Shank

MOBILE, AL. A Mobile County Metro Jail corrections officer was attacked and assaulted by an inmate with a “shank”.
The officer was injured in the assault, and the inmate has been locked down in confinement.

The sheriff’s office has identified the inmate as Jeremiah Jackson.

The Mobile County Sheriff’s Office said the assault happened when an inmate attacked the corrections officer with a shank, an improvised knife but authorities have not stated why.

The Mobile County Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Unit is now investigating the incident and Jackson could face charges of felony aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer.

The officer sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to the hospital for observation, sheriff’s officials said.
