A family traveling on Interstate 10 in Loxley Saturday morning just after 4 a.m. was involved in a very bad wreck with an 18-wheeler near Mile Marker 43.
Emergency responders were notified that three people were entrapped in the vehicle including a young child.
Due to the seriousness of the wreck, two medical helicopters were dispatched to the scene.
Interstate 10 was also shut down temporarily.
Firefighters worked to free those entrapped from the vehicle that was embedded in the guardrail whiles others treated the truck driver.
During the activity at the crash site, firefighters and medics were advised that although the medical helicopters lifted off to respond, they had to abort due to the low cloud ceiling in the area.
Multiple victims were taken by ground transport to area hospitals.
State Troopers said that they are investigating the accident at this time.
At 6:30 a.m., the Loxley fire department returned to Interstate 10 for another report of a two-vehicle accident with injuries, this time to the area of mile-marker 44.
Once again, part of I-10 was shut down while the accident was cleared up.
