Large Tanker Truck Catches Fire-Shuts Down I-10

BALDWIN COUNTY, Ala. A fire on Interstate 10 overnight shut down traffic for more than hour.

A driver reported to 911 that smoke and flames were coming from an 18-wheeler traveling eastbound just before 3 a.m., Wednesday, September 30, 2026.

ALEA troopers, Baldwin County sheriff deputies and several fire departments were dispatched to the area of mile-marker 57.

Upon arrival, responders found the large truck fully engulfed in fire and had to shut down that area of the interstate.

Additional firefighters and tanker trucks had to be dispatched to assist in extinguishing the blaze.

Authorities said that although the big rig was a tanker, it wasn’t carrying much of a load.

The Rosinton and Styx River Fire Departments were on scene for more than two hours ensuring that the fire was completely out.

There were no reports of any injuries, and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
