A traffic accident involving an 18-wheeler and three pedestrians in Brewton has left two children seriously injured but in stable condition according to the Brewton police.
The accident occurred Monday afternoon and the intersection of Mildred Street and Green Street around 4 p.m.
Police said the three were crossing the intersection and that the father was pushing the youngest child in a stroller just as the truck carrying an unloaded log trailer was turning south onto Mildred Street. The two children and the man were struck by the front passenger side of the truck as it was making the left turn onto Mildred Street, police said.
Firefighters, EMS, and police immediately rushed to the area and the father and children were taken to a nearby hospital for care.
There was no word on whether the truck driver was injured.
Because of the serious nature of the accident involving two very young children, a Brewton police traffic homicide investigator was called to the scene to ensure a detailed investigation was completed as the police continue the investigation.
The accident investigation is ongoing and may take several months to complete while awaiting results from forensic analysis reports, police said.
Police did not release the names of anyone involved in the wreck.
