Good Samaritan Killed When He Stops to Help Accident Victim

MOBILE, AL. On Saturday, October 10, 2026, at approximately 11:30 p.m., Mobile police and the Mobile Fire-Rescue responded to a traffic accident at the intersection of the I-10 exit ramp and Highway 90 S. involving multiple vehicles, one of which had flipped onto its’ roof.
Upon arrival, officers observed a male victim in the roadway with life-threatening injuries.
He was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
Upon further investigation, officers discovered the driver of a vehicle lost control, causing his vehicle to leave the roadway.
The vehicle continued onto Highway 90 S. where it struck a guard rail prior to the vehicle flipping.
Two other vehicles stopped to help the driver who appeared to have minor injuries, but during the incident, those two vehicles were struck by another vehicle.
It was discovered the deceased victim was outside of his vehicle offering assistance to the other driver when he was struck by the passing vehicle.
The victim has been identified as Jayan Patel, 45. The driver of the vehicle left the scene.
This remains an active investigation.
