FAIRHOPE, Ala. A bomb threat brought out a large response from multiple agencies after police received a call about a bomb at the Fairhope pier.
This morning at approximately 6 a.m., the Fairhope Police Department dispatch center received an emergency call on a 911 line from an unidentified individual claiming that there was a bomb located in a vehicle near the Fairhope Municipal Pier area.
Police arrived at the location first and evacuated everyone from the area.
The Fairhope Volunteer Fire Department also responded.
Fairhope police officers secured the perimeter and conducted a sweep of the area.
Other responding emergency units included Gulf Shores Police Department’s Bomb K9 unit, Mobile Police Department Bomb Squad, and EMS.
Following a comprehensive search of the premises, law-enforcement officials found no evidence of an active danger.
The scene has been cleared, normal operations have resumed, and there is no ongoing threat to the public.
Investigators have confirmed that this incident was a swatting call, which is a deliberate hoax designed to trigger a massive, armed police response. The investigation into the origin of the call remains active.
In recent years, Fairhope has received numerous swatting calls.
