Elderly Man Dies in Multi-Vehicle Wreck

CHOCTAW COUNTY Ala. A two-vehicle crash involving a commercial vehicle that occurred at approximately 2:50 p.m. Monday, June 9, has claimed the life of a Silas man.
Jimmie L. Slater, 86, was critically injured when the 2018 Nissan Altima he was driving was struck by the 2022 Kenworth Tractor-Trailer driven by Meyoni T. McClain, 25, of Jacksonville.
Slater was not using a seat belt at the time of the crash and was transported to the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) Hospital for treatment.
On Thursday, June 12, Slater succumbed to injuries and was pronounced deceased.
The crash occurred on U.S. 84 near Choctaw County 21, approximately five miles east of Silas, in Choctaw County.
The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s (ALEA) Highway Patrol Division continues to investigate.
