DAPHNE, Ala. Several residents in the Timber Creek subdivision reported to police that people wearing masks were going through the neighborhood banging on the windows and doors of houses, and in some cases, scaring residents.
Surveillance cameras at several homes captured the events and now Daphne police are investigating the incidents and trying to identify the culprits.
Police said the teens or young adults with masks covering their faces aggressively banged on windows and doors of residences, scaring homeowners, and it raises concern, given recent events.
It seems like more than a prank, one resident said. It seems malicious to me.
Captain David Smith with Daphne Police agreed, saying that those involved looked to be older than teens and were obviously out to cause alarm.
“When you take for instance, just recently in Houston, we had the same type of situation where an eleven-year-old kid and his buddy were doing what they thought was just a simple prank and it, unfortunately turned deadly. You don’t know how homeowners are going to react,” explained Captain David Smith with Daphne Police.
In recent weeks and numerous times in recent years, homeowners have shot teens through their doors after believing that someone was breaking into their home.
Daphne police are working with their School Resource Officers in hopes of identifying who was involved in the incident.
Smith said that police would like to talk to those involved, but what they did could be considered criminal, and a homeowner could press charges.
