An ALEA state trooper attempted to make a traffic stop on a vehicle heading Eastbound on Interstate 10 Tuesday just before noon, but the driver decided not to cooperate.
Instead of pulling to the right and stopping, it sped off at a high rate of speed, engaging the trooper in a police chase at around 11:30 a.m.
The trooper continued pursuing the Gold Chevy Malibu which appeared to have been damaged in a previous accident, and at times reached speeds of 109 mph as it continued inching closer and closer to the Florida line.
Eventually both the Malibu driver and state trooper crossed the Florida state line still in hot pursuit and with the Florida Highway Patrol standing by.
It didn’t take long for Florida troopers to jump into the pursuit and soon thereafter used a PIT (precision immobilization technique) on the vehicle causing it to crash out.
FHP troopers immediately gained control of the driver and put him into handcuffs.
The driver now faces multiple charges in Florida and Alabama including Reckless Driving, Speeding, Fleeing and Eluding Law Enforcement, and other charges.
Angela Marie Stillwell who only had a learner’s permit, is being held in Florida facing felony and misdemeanor charges.
