Alabama Man Arrested For Assaulting Softball Umpire

Police have arrested a man who allegedly assaulted an umpire during a sporting event in Hoover.
The Hoover Police Department were called to the Spain Park Sports Complex on Valleydale Road around 7 p.m. Thursday night because someone had been assaulted.
During their investigation, officers were told that a man later identified as Michael Seals, 26, Seals had become upset when he was called out on a play during an adult recreational league softball game. When his behavior continued to worsen, an umpire ejected him from the game and that’s when he attacked the umpire leaving the man injured.
A group of witnesses came to the aid of the umpire and Seals left the area.
A short time later, Hoover police located Seal, and conducted a traffic stop and took him into custody.
Seals, 26, is charged with third-degree assault of a sports official, a Class C felony, the Hoover Police Department announced Friday afternoon.
After the arrest, Seals was being held on a $5000 bond.
