MOBILE, Ala. A man who led police on a pursuit before ditching his car and fleeing on foot, is now behind bars at the Mobile County Metro Jail.
Mobile Police officers attempted to pull the vehicle over around 9:45 p.m. Tuesday on Interstate-65 near Airport Boulevard, but the driver refused to stop.
The driver, who has now been identified as 28-year-old Jammie Lamont McCovery, continued from I-65 onto I-10 eastbound before turning off his headlights to try and lose the officers, according to the police officers.
Police officers did not continue the pursuit at this time because there was a risk to the public with the driver speeding without any lights on but a shot time later police responded to a wreck near the Dauphin Island Parkway offramp, which is where they found the car that had been engaged in the earlier pursuit, had now crashed into a concrete barrier.
McCovery then got out of the car and began running as the police arrived but was quickly caught and arrested.
McCovery is charged with first-degree marijuana possession, felony attempt to elude and possession of a controlled substance.
