Driver Critically Injured When Bridge Collapses During Storm

A driver is in critical condition after a bridge that he was driving across collapsed during a severe storm on Sunday night.
The unidentified driver was crossing a bridge on Cemetery Road in a rural part of Perdido when suddenly it collapsed and his vehicle plummeted, trapping the driver inside.
The area volunteer fire department was called to the scene and was able to extricate the occupant from the damaged vehicle.
The driver was trapped for upwards of an hour according to authorities.
The person was rushed to an area hospital but their condition has not been released yet.
ALEA troopers responded to the scene and are conducting an investigation to determine what occurred, and why it happened.
