Monroe County Crash Kills One-Injures Two Others

MONROE COUNTY, Ala. A two-vehicle crash that occurred at approximately 11:25 a.m. Monday, October 5TH, 2026, has claimed the life of an Evergreen man.
Ricky J. York, 68, was critically injured when the 2011 Mazda 3 he was a passenger in collided head-on with a 2016 Ford F-150 pickup driven by Jeffery L. Gandy, 63, of Elberta.
Area fire departments and EMS quickly responded to the scene.
A medical helicopter was also dispatched.
York was airlifted to Ascension Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola, Fla. for medical treatment where he later succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased.
The driver of the Mazda, Sherry D. York, 65, of Evergreen, was injured and airlifted to Baptist Medical Center South in Montgomery for medical treatment.
Gandy was injured and transported to Monroe County Hospital in Monroeville for medical treatment.
The crash occurred on Alabama 21 near Black’s Loop Rd, approximately one mile south of Beatrice city limits, in Monroe County.
Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s (ALEA) Highway Patrol Division continue to investigate.
