DAPHNE, Ala. The construction on the new Italian Village approved to be built in Daphne along State Highway 181 has officially begun.
Large earth movers, dump trucks and sewer pipes have moved in like an army and begun leveling some areas of the land while digging deep into the earth to place sewer pipes and other utilities.
The Italian Village an $81.5 million mixed-use master-planned development located at the northwest corner of Alabama State Route 181 and Baldwin County Road 64 and will include luxury living with a twist.
The 200-unit luxury apartment complex will be surrounded by lush lands, trees, water features and a 5-acre pond.
Oh yea, they’ll also be neighbors with a Walmart store that will be built next to this development in a strip mall.
And just north of this project, another big building project is also underway at the corner of State Highway 181 near Disc Drive.
The Church of the Highlands, a branch of the much larger church based in Birmingham, has started construction on a 50,000 square-foot building featuring a main worship auditorium, spaces for Highlands Kids and Students, and community outreach areas.
Currently, about 900 members hold church on Sundays at the Daphne Civic Center.
The new Bayfront Park Amphitheater is also well on its way as construction has been ongoing for months.
When finished, this beautiful space will transform the bayfront and the city, holding concerts, plays and a slew of other events attracting locals as well as those from across the region.
At least three other large scale building projects are on the horizon in Daphne.
The city continues to reimagine itself while growing into a place where people want to live, visit, and work.
