Detention Officers Prevent Suicide at Baldwin County Jail

BAY MINETTE, Ala. An attempted suicide was averted at the Baldwin County Detention Center this week when correction officers responded to an emergency in a cell.
On September 17, 2026, at approximately 0330 hours, Corrections Officers at the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office Corrections Center discovered that Shawn Clark who is currently incarcerated for child pornography charges was unconscious in his cell.
Corrections Officers immediately rendered medical aid to Mr. Clark and requested an ambulance to the Corrections Center.
Mr. Clark was transported to a local trauma center and is currently listed as in stable condition.
BCSO Investigators responded to the jail and through follow-up discovered that Mr. Clark intentionally cut himself during an attempted suicide.
No other inmates were involved in this act.
Once Mr. Clark is cleared by medical professionals, he will be returned to the Baldwin County Corrections Center and be placed on suicide watch.
The Sheriff’s Office would like to commend the swift actions of our corrections officer whose medical training assisted in preserving Mr. Clarks life.
