MOBILE, AL. Police are on the hunt today for the person who shot and critically injured a woman in Mobile.
Mobile Police Chief William Jackson has called the shooting senseless and is calling on the community to help stop the violence.
Retired police detective Brian Franklin said almost all shootings that happen in Mobile and elsewhere are senseless, reckless and unjustified.
Chief Jackson stated that police officers responded to the 500 block of Rickarby Street around 11:40 p.m., where they found the woman suffering from a life-threatening gunshot wound.
An occupied home in the area was also struck by gunfire, though no one inside was injured.
“Unfortunately, one of the shots that was fired struck an innocent victim who is stable at the hospital right now and appears will recover,” Jackson said. She does not appear to be the intended target of the shooter.
However, this is just another senseless act that should not occur. Shouldn’t be tolerated by me, the police department or our community, the chief said.
On Thursday, crime scene investigators returned to the neighborhood to collect additional evidence as they work to determine who opened fire and why.
This is an active investigation, and police believe that they’ll be able to make an arrest but they’re asking for citizens to come forward with any information that they know about who might have done this.
