Gunbattle Erupts at Alabama Lowe’s Between Wanted Person and Police

DECATUR, Ala. A call about shoplifting at a local Lowe’s Home Improvement ended in gunfire outside of the store.
The Limestone County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division is leading the investigation into an officer-involved shooting outside the Lowe’s on Beltline Road in Decatur.
Nicholas Scott Terry, 37, opened fire as law enforcement was attempting to stop him during the commission of a crime, according to authorities.
According to a police spokesperson, the shooting happened Monday during a joint operation involving the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office, Morgan County Sheriff’s Office and the Decatur Police Department.
According to the Limestone County Sheriff’s Office, officers saw Terry leave Lowe’s and get into a vehicle. A marked patrol unit, a uniformed officer and other officers displaying police identifiers approached and gave verbal commands. Investigators say Terry then pulled a gun from his waistband and fired at officers.
Officials say three officers returned fire, striking Terry multiple times. Two officers suffered minor injuries during the incident.
Terry was taken to a local hospital, where he is listed in stable condition, authorities said. Investigators said Terry was wanted on multiple felony warrants at the time.
At this time, police say that the Limestone County Sheriff’s Office investigators are reviewing video, processing evidence and interviewing witnesses.

This remains an active and ongoing investigation and charges are pending against Terry.
