MOBILE COUNTY, AL. The owners of goats in Wilmer say that a pack of dogs killed sixteen of the herd and that the dogs slaughtered the animals Sunday morning leaving just a few goats unscathed.
Mark Elmore said that he heard a commotion but by the time he got out there the dogs had attacked and killed most of the twenty goats that once lived there.
Elmore owns MoTu’s farm, a family-owned livestock operation. He said the attack happened quickly and that his wife saw the invasion of wild animals firsthand.
There was a lot of barking and goats were bleating, also known as crying.
The goats were mauled and left for dead, Elmore said.
“Once they get the taste of blood, that’s it,” Elmore said. “They don’t eat them. It’s strictly just, they go in there and kill them and maul them up.”
Adult goats can sell for $200-$800 a piece and this is indeed a large financial loss for us, Elmore said.
Authorities have been called but it’s unsure what can be done or if the dog pack that attacked the goats can even be properly identified.
The Mobile County Sheriff’s Office has not yet responded to the question of that can be done to capture these dogs.
