BALDWIN COUNTY, Ala. Prodisee Pantry has been serving the people of Baldwin County for years and now, the Baldwin County Commission has donated land to them so that a second location can be built.
The land is located at the corner of AL-225 and Lakeview Road and the non-profit organization said that it will be used for a second facility that will help serve the northern part of Baldwin County.
“Positioning ourselves north of Bay Minette has been a strategic thing to make it easier for those in those most rural communities,” said Executive Director Deann Servos.
Once a month, we have been offering distribution events in rural north Baldwin County, and this new location is exactly what we had been hoping for.
Last year, 1,499 families attended the distribution events in Stockton, but that entailed Prodisee Pantry hauling 7-8 tons of food each month to parking lots at partnering churches and it has been a logistics nightmare,” said Servos.
While many people know that we have been providing food to those in need, we actually do much more the executive director said.
Prodisee Pantry also partners with various services and connect people to them during food distribution events.
“Everything from free, legal to medical, dental, mental health counseling and screenings to, you know, jobs and employment opportunities by having clinics and training sessions,” said Servos.
They have helping many with a multitude of services at their Spanish fort location but because they did not have a permanent location in the northern part of the county, they were not able to provide those services there. But that will soon change.
“The north part of the county is lacking so many social services or easy access to those services, so it’s important to us,” said Servos.
Servos estimates it’ll take $3.5 million to clear the 4.5 acres, build the facility and parking lot. Servos says Prodisee Pantry hasn’t had a project this large since 2012 when they moved into the Spanish Fort facility.
Prodisee Pantry says 42% of its client families live in north Baldwin County and they hope to have the new location opened as quickly as possible.
