Dispensary applicants have waiting several years and endured legal issues and legislative setbacks but now, finally, the Alabama Medical Cannabis Commission has voted to award licenses to four medical marijuana dispensary applicants, which are each allowed to operate three locations.
The commission did not specifically how they came to award licenses to these chosen applicants or why they only chose four and not more applicants.
An administrative law judge presided over a hearing that was requested by competing companies, which resulted in a list of applicants that were deemed most suitable for licenses.
These four companies are:
GP6 Wellness LLC
RJK Holdings LLC
CCS of Alabama LLC
Yellowhammer Medical Dispensaries LLC
According to Chairman of the Commission Rex Vaughn, the dispensaries could be open as early as spring 2026, and the dispensary companies are all required to pay a $40,000 license fee.
Yellowhammer’s license was placed on a stay until January 26, 2-26, when the commission plans to meet again to reconsider the stay and address a possible challenge by another company, Capitol Medical LLC.
The commission has also approved the following cities for the physical stores:
Athens
Attalla
Birmingham (two locations)
Cullman
Daphne
Demopolis
Mobile
Montgomery
Owens Crossroads
Oxford
Talladega
At this time, no specific addresses for the locations have been announced.
