Three Persons Arrested After High-Speed Chase on Interstate 65 

CHICKASAW, Ala.

A pursuit that led multiple law enforcement officers south on I-65 and ended in a crash at Exit 10 in Chickasaw Friday morning started after a serious crime had occurred.

According to the Alabama Department of Corrections, an ADOC Law Enforcement Services Division officer spotted a suspicious vehicle and a person allegedly trying to sneak contraband into Fountain Correctional Facility in Atmore Friday morning.

The officer observed a suspect then get into a vehicle and begin to flee leading to the pursuit and the arrest of three persons.

Authorities said the driver of the vehicle, 27-year-old Jajuan Williams, and the rear passenger, 25-year-old Amber Shields, were taken into custody when the vehicle crashed just off the Interstate.

Another suspect, later identified as 32-year-old Justin Duckworth, tried to run away but was captured a short time later.

All three suspects were booked into the Escambia County Jail.

According to ADOC, all three are charged with first-degree promoting prison contraband, attempting to commit a controlled substance crime, first-degree marijuana possession and prohibited activities.

In addition, Duckworth faces charges of certain person forbidden to possess a firearm and second-degree receiving stolen property.

Williams is also charged with felony attempting to elude and first-degree criminal mischief.

Authorities said the LESD investigation is ongoing and further charges may be possible.

The ADOC said the Poarch Creek Indians Police Department, Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office and the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency all assisted in the apprehension of the suspects.
