Hayden Man Pleads Guilty to 153 Counts of Possessing Obscene Matter

A Hayden resident pleaded guilty to 153 counts of possession of obscene matter and one count of unlawful possession of a controlled substance.

Blount County District Attorney Pamela Casey said a sentencing hearing is set for March 25, 2025 for Jody Lane Crawford.

Crawford could receive up to 10 years in prison for each count of possession of obscene matter and an additional five years in prison for possession of a controlled substance.

Prosecutors said they will ask the court to impose consecutive sentences.

Prosecutors said evidence would show that agents with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) executed a search warrant at Crawford’s home on Abbott Road.

Casey said authorities seized at least five devices containing 153 images depicting nude children, many engaged in sexual acts. Methamphetamine was also seized during the search.

“This case is not just about pictures and videos,” said Casey. “These images contain depictions of real children. These children have names. Like all children, they should have had an opportunity to live out all of their hopes and dreams. But, instead, these children have lived through the nightmare of sexual exploitation. These images memorialize the exploitation of these children to satisfy the deviant desires of depraved individuals. Possession of these images should be punished as aggressively as the acts perpetrated in the images.
