The 5 Rivers – Alabama Delta Resource Center located at 30945 Five Rivers Boulevard, Spanish Fort, Alabama was touted as a place for education, beauty, and tranquility when it opened in 2008.
Its 70 acres sits at the convergence of the Mobile, Spanish, Tensaw, Apalachee and Blakeley rivers at the point where they all flow into Mobile Bay.
5 Rivers hosted meetings, tourists and locals on its property during the years, but not enough, to keep it a viable destination.
I, myself, have enjoyed strolling the property, sitting on the riverside and taking a few boat rides from its dock, but now, the State of Alabama has decided that part of the complex will be leased or sold at auction.
The State of Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources State Lands Division posted an announcement of a public auction for a lease with an option to purchase state property in the Tensaw Theater at 5 Rivers – Alabama Delta Resource Center.
It says the auction will take place on April 17 at 10:00am.
While there hasn’t been much said about what is taking place with the property, Alabama State Representative Matt Simpson of Baldwin County posted a statement from the Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources Director Chris Blankenship.
It says the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources has been approached by an entity that is interested in expanding the offerings for outdoor education, outdoor recreation, and other associated uses in Coastal Alabama.
The post says the conditioned uses in the lease auction are consistent with the current operation of Five Rivers and will further the mission of the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources.
There is no word on who the entity might be.
