GULF SHORES, Ala. We have recently reported that several changes in the operation of e-bikes and e-scooters in Gulf Shores was about to take place and that some new rules for operating them would be starting March 1st.
These updated rules include:
a. It is now illegal to operate e-bikes and scooters against the flow of traffic
b. You cannot operate in areas not designated for their use;
c. You must wear a helmet
d. Cannot operate above the posted speed limit.
Another addition to the ordinances includes that rental companies will be required to have renters watch a safety video before renting, provide a helmet and not rent to anyone younger than 18 without a parent or legal guardian signing a waiver.
For those who own their own e-bike, they are responsible for learning what the new rules are and adhering to the laws.
Officials said that the beach communities are becoming more mobile with many residents and visitors using various modes of transportation which can sometimes cause conflicts between riders and motorists.
