Mobile Police Charge Man in Recent Shooting

A person wanted for shooting a man on Cedar Avenue has been taken into custody by Mobile police officers.

Jermaine Billups,23, is accused of first-degree assault in connection with a shooting that injured another man last week.

The shooting happened in the 400 block of Cedar Avenue around 11:50 p.m. Friday.

According to police, the victim and Billups had gotten into a fight and Billups shot the victim. Police also said that Billups was grazed by a bullet and sustained a non-life-threatening injury.
Billups went to a nearby emergency room for treatment.

Authorities also said it is unclear whether Billups shot himself or if the victim shot him.

Billups has a lengthy police record and has been incarcerated previously.

The investigation is ongoing.
