Bootleg Moonshiner Caught During Alabama Traffic Stop

OZARK, Ala. Bootleg moonshine is still a big business in the south and elsewhere as a recent traffic stop revealed.
On January 9th, 2026, police in the small city of Ozark Alabama, located in Dale County, conducted a traffic stop on a driver and police uncovered 81 gallons of illegal moonshine packed inside the vehicle.
Officer Dylan Griffin, who is assigned to the department’s Crime Suppression Unit said that during the stop, he observed multiple containers of a clear liquid in plain view, which was later identified as moonshine.
Police identified the driver as 61-year-old Learndis Hamilton, who was traveling from Florida to an unknown destination at the time of the stop was alone in the vehicle.
Hamilton was arrested, and further investigation has been turned over to the Alabama Beverage Control Board.
The department noted that possession of large quantities of illegally distilled liquor is prohibited under Alabama law.
