Excavator Catches Fire at Foley New Subdivision Site

An excavator being used at the Keystone Subdivision, which is under construction just off US Highway 98 caught fire Monday afternoon at around 1:45 p.m.

The new subdivision, which is near 15924 US 98 and close to the Magnolia Springs line brought fire apparatus from both communities including a large tanker truck from the Magnolia Springs Fire Department, a necessary piece of firefighting equipment when there are no fire hydrants in the area.

A brush truck was also called in to get through some of the deep mud in the construction area but was canceled after the fire was put out by workers on site.

The excavator may have overheated and caught fire or had a different issue but at this time the cause of the fire remains unknown.
