MOBILE, AL. A Grand Bay man previously arrested on multiple charges has now been found guilty on charges including sodomy and sexual abuse of a child.
Franklin Lanier, 42, now faces a possibility of life in prison.
According to the Mobile County District Attorney’s Office, Lanier was found guilty by a jury on first-degree sodomy, first-degree sexual abuse, and sexual abuse of a child less than 12.
Evidence presented at trial this week showed that Lanier sexually abused the victim beginning when the victim was 8 years old and continuing until the victim was 16.
“We thank the jury for their time and careful consideration of this case,” said District Attorney Keith Blackwood. “Hearing the details of sexual abuse against a child is difficult and heartbreaking. We are grateful to these jurors for listening carefully to the evidence and fulfilling their responsibility in a case involving years of abuse.”
Lanier is scheduled to be sentenced on Jan. 14, 2027. He faces life in prison.
