SARALAND, Ala. A traffic collision involving a cement truck and a passenger vehicle on Kushla McLeod Road shortly before 12 p.m. on September 2nd, 2026, was caused by distracted driving.
The fiery wreck left 21-year-old Jeriah Roberts deceased on scene near U.S. 45.
A crash report just released by the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency concluded that the driver of the cement truck was distracted while looking for his wallet, which had fallen on the floorboard inside the vehicle…when he looked up, he observed that his vehicle had crossed the center line.”
The police report also stated that once the cement truck swerved, Roberts also swerved to the right, running off the road. The cement truck then overturned on top of Roberts’ car before landing in the ditch.
Roberts’ car caught fire while he was still inside and never made it out of his vehicle.
Fire and EMS were on scene quickly but there was nothing that could be done.
ALEA said he was pronounced dead at the scene.
On that day, Jeriah and his father were almost home from work when the crash happened.
The owner of the cement truck, Bay Concrete, has not responded to local media about the wreck.
