MOBILE, AL. Local and federal law enforcement have announced the arrest of three University of South Alabama students who threatened death and violence against President Donald Trump.
Federal law enforcement was tracking numerous threats ahead of the president’s rally at the university.
Amare Jemal Woods, Cameron Lamark Lewis and Kayla Leaann Smith were arrested Friday over separate social media posts allegedly directed at Trump before his appearance at USA’s Mitchell Center.
Federal court records indicate the alleged threats were separate and not part of a coordinated plot.
We do not believe that this was any type of joint effort by the students a federal agent stated.
Woods, a freshman aerospace engineering student, allegedly commented “he gotta die bro” beneath a TikTok post about Trump coming to campus, according to an FBI affidavit.
Smith, an elementary education student, allegedly responded to another TikTok about Trump’s visit by writing, “We only got one chance let’s take it,” before posting an image of someone mimicking holding a firearm.
Lewis, a USA student whom 1819 News was told serves as a resident assistant at the University and serves as vice president of USA’s National Pan-Hellenic Council, allegedly made two posts on X.
According to investigators, one said people would remember South Alabama the same way they remember Utah Valley University, where conservative activist Charlie Kirk was assassinated in 2025. Investigators said another Lewis post urged a killing.
All three were taken into federal custody Friday, with detention hearings scheduled for Monday.
Other online threats including one that read “HELP ME RISE UP TO BLOW UP TRUMP.” Are being investigated.
Other violent rhetoric also appeared publicly on social media and in some of them, charges could be filed against them, said an agent.
Several student organizations, including USA’s Young Democratic Socialists of America and Jags Against Fascism, promoted demonstrations opposing Trump’s visit. Protesters gathered Friday afternoon before marching toward the Mitchell Center.
