Head-On Collision Kills Driver in Mobile County

MOBILE COUNTY, AL. – A two-vehicle crash that occurred at approximately 2:37 p.m. Wednesday, September 23, 2026, has claimed the life of a Coden man.
Hulen V. Owens, 94, was critically injured when the 2011 Chevrolet Silverado pickup he was driving collided head-on with a 2018 Ram 1500 pickup driven by Stephanie M. Lyons-Radcliff, 58, of Coden.
Volunteer firefighters from the area, EMS and ALEA troopers responded to the area of Alabama 188 near the 11-mile marker, approximately one mile east of Bayou La Batre.
Owens was transported to University Hospital (USA) in Mobile for treatment where he later succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased.
Troopers with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s (ALEA) Highway Patrol Division continue to investigate.
