FAIRHOPE, Ala. Police in Fairhope were called to the Walmart store at County Road 48 and State Highway 181 Tuesday for a report of a shoplifting incident.
Police later learned that several people including Jordan Latrell Brantley, 19, of Mobile was involved in a felony theft.
He was arrested and charged with first-degree theft, fleeing and attempting to elude, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.
When police arrived at the store, officers were alerted that store security had spotted several suspects from a previous felony theft inside the store.
When store security attempted to stop them, the suspects reportedly fled the store, prompting a Fairhope police officer to give chase on foot.
Police say two additional suspects also got away, leaving the area in a vehicle after one briefly fled on foot before being picked up by the driver.
Fairhope police searched the area along State Highway 181 and the Falls Creek subdivision and said that at least one person was armed with a handgun.
The investigation is ongoing, police said.
