MOBILE, AL. The Mobile County Sheriff’s Office had been conducting a manhunt after a man shot at them but now, that man, identified as John M. Byrd has been captured and is in the Mobile County Metro Jail.
Deputies said that they had been looking for Bryd, 31, on charges relating to a domestic violence incident that occurred in Semmes.
Semmes Police had requested assistance from the sheriff’s department, and a K-9 unit was sent to assist in tracking Byrd and that’s when as law enforcement was searching in a wooded area, Byrd opened fire on the officers.
“They could hear the limbs cracking around them, so we deployed our SWAT team and special operations, but it appears he’s made it outside the perimeter,” Mobile County Sheriff Paul Burch said.
The sheriff said deputies did not fire back because they didn’t have a clear line of sight. No one was hurt.
Deputies then deployed a drone and redeployed the K-9 but did not locate him.
Burch said that Bryd was later located at a residence in the 5000 block of Nate Road and taken into custody.
Currently he is facing charges of resisting arrest, second degree escape and domestic violence but Burch said Byrd will face more charges.
