Shooting at Daphne Hospital-2nd in a Month

For the second time in less than a month, the Daphne police and fire departments responded to a shooting at the Eastpointe Hospital located at 7400 Roper Lane just off Pinehill Road.
At approximately 7:55 p.m. on Friday night, local first responders were dispatched to the facility to assist a person who had been shot.
Daphne police entered the facility first to ensure that the scene was safe and Daphne firefighters and EMS personnel followed.
Though details are limited, we know that Eastpointe is a mental health treatment center for adults (19 years of age or older) and that in the past two years there have been at least four incidents of violence at the facility.
The Daphne police were called to a report of a shooting at the Eastpointe Hospital, 7400 Roper Lane at around 4:10 p.m. on Saturday, February 22nd, of this year at around 4:10 p.m. and there has also been a report of a stabbing at the facility this year.
Eastpointe is an adult psychiatric hospital that opened in 2012.
It is part of the Altapointe Health Corporation.
In the past five years, there have been several incidents involving weapons and violence at the facility, including suicidal situations.
Of concern also is the fact that weapons, especially firearms, are making their way into this mental health facility and security does not seem appropriate.
Medstar and the Daphne Fire Department are called to the hospital frequently for medical emergencies and medical transfers.
After the February shooting, we contacted the facility for further information but we were told that there would be no comments.
