More than 30 FBI, ATF, and ICE agents conducted raids in Baldwin County on Tuesday including at a subdivision that was under construction in Spanish Fort.
At least five persons who are suspected of being in the U.S. illegally were taken into custody.
Agents also checked several vehicles including a pickup that pulled up to the worksite as agents were checking identification.
FBI Mobile posted an image on Facebook of agents walking a man in handcuffs in Stonebridge, the subdivision under construction.
A spokesperson for the agency said five people were detained in Baldwin County Tuesday morning. It’s not clear if all were taken into custody in Stonebridge. The FBI Mobile Facebook post said, “FBI is working side by side with HSI and Baldwin County Sheriff’s office on immigration enforcement. Multiple subjects in custody.”
This was the second time in a week that federal agents have raided the Baldwin County construction site. They also raided a construction site in Foley.
The FBI also posted that several people were detained in Lee County. A spokesperson says three people were taken into custody Tuesday morning there in a targeted immigration enforcement operation.
Federal agents have previously stated that those who choose to knowingly hire illegal immigrants and pay them off the books could also face federal charges.
