At 7:08 am Wednesday morning, the Baldwin County 911 center received a call of a swimmer in distress in the Mobile Bay near Spanish Fort. The caller stated that it was on the Eastbound side of Interstate 10.
Originally, the Spanish Fort police and fire departments were dispatched to investigate and while responding, several other callers notified 911 that there seemed to be a lifeless body in the bay.
Rescue boats including the ALEA marine police launched their boats into the bay and made their way to the area.
Upon arriving at the scene, firefighters and law enforcement spotted a person in the Delta that appeared to be deceased and ALEA troopers and sheriff investigators arrived on-scene.
Interstate 10 Eastbound was shut down and traffic diverted onto the causeway while a death investigation was being conducted.
ALDOT also turned off traffic cameras in that area so that viewers could not watch as the investigation unfolded.
The body was transported from the scene will possibly undergo an autopsy in the coming days.
ALEA agents stated that this is an active investigation.
