MOBILE Ala. An investigation is underway after an apartment fire left several residents homeless and multiple apartments damaged.

The Mobile Fire-Rescue responded to the Estates at Lafayette Square apartment complex located at 900 Downtowner Blvd at around 9:15 p.m. on June 23, 2025, after 911 calls reporting that something was on fire.

When firefighters arrived, they found flames and heavy smoke coming from a ground-level apartment.

Several more fire units arrived at the complex and firefighters entered the ground level unit and found the flames were spreading up the walls and ceiling and the fire escalating fast.

Firefighters did an internal attack on the fire but at least that unit and several others were damaged, displacing three families from their homes.

The fire department did not report any injuries but said that the cause of the fire is under investigation.

This is the same apartment complex where a juvenile was shot and seriously injured on Sunday, June 22nd, 2025.
Mobile police previously said that this is an active investigation.
