During the last three days, there have been three separate sightings of coyotes on the attack during daylight hours on the Eastern Shore.
In two incidents, they attacked cats and carried them away according to several residents who were watching from their home.
On Wednesday, a resident of Daphne stated that they witnessed what they called a “healthy” coyote, stalk, and then attack, a small rabbit that was running across a neighbor’s lawn and carrying it into some nearby brush.
The coyote mating season runs through the end of March and during this time there are more sightings and activity according to an Alabama State Conservation Officer.
The Department of Conservation and Natural Resources regulates the coyote hunting activities in Alabama. This department is also in charge of wildlife management in the state.
In Alabama, licensed hunters may hunt coyotes year round but remember that as with any hunt, hunting is allowed thirty minutes before sunrise and thirty minutes after sunrise.
