FAIRHOPE, Ala.
The City of Fairhope has installed weather alert systems in two of the public sports complexes to warn parkgoers of impending severe weather.
The city decided to specifically install two Perry Weather alert systems at Founders Park and Manley Road Soccer Complex because large groups of people often gather here for sporting events and may not be aware of severe weather that is moving into the area.
The systems have warning sirens, strobe lights, and can deliver informational messages. Users can tailor the alerts to best fit their needs. The systems are capable of alerting those at the complexes to lightning, extreme heat, and other weather hazards.
The system which can pick up lightning within a 10-mile radius then sounds an alarm and activates strobe lights.
The systems track on-site weather conditions and can quickly provide weather data and alerts. According to Perry Weather, the system can warn parkgoers if lightning is detected in less than 20 seconds.
The City of Fairhope believes that these new weather alert systems can prevent injuries and save lives.
There is also an app that people can download to receive live weather alerts.
The city will soon implement QR codes on our signage throughout the parks and will also be installing the weather systems at other parks as well.
