An Alabama State Trooper has been arrested and charged in Talladega County for possession of pornographic material of a person under the age of 17.

Court records show that Chad McKenzie Claybrook, 45, who was identified by a local source as an Alabama State Trooper, is accused of possessing a visual depiction of a person under 17 engaging in some form of sexual conduct “on or about” Dec. 9, 2024.

The arrest warrant was sworn on February 12. However, records state he wasn’t admitted into jail until nearly a month later which was on March 10 2025.

1819 News made several attempts to contact the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) to find Claybrook’s current employment status, none of which were answered. However, it is likely he has either been terminated or placed on administrative leave.

“I’m familiar with who you’re talking about, but as far as if they’ve terminated employment or that status, I do not know,” said Talladega County Sheriff Jimmy Kilgore.

Records say Claybrook was booked in the Talladega County Jail on March 10 and released on a $7,500 bond the following day.

Claybrook appears to be heavily featured on ALEA’s social media pages for appearing at schools and other functions.

Possession of pornography without the intent to distribute is a Class C felony. According to Alabama code section 13A-12-192, the provision Claybrook is charged under, a Class C felony carries a potential sentence of 1-10 years in prison and a possible $15,000 fine. However, the code states, “Any transfer of the visual depiction from any electronic device to any other device, program, application, or any other place with storage capability which can be made available or is accessible by other users, is prima facie evidence of possession with intent to disseminate.”

With the intent to discriminate, the crime becomes a Class B felony, punishable by 2-20 years in prison and a $30,000 fine.
