1 Person Dead in 15 Vehicle Crash on Interstate 65
BUTLER COUNTY, Ala.
(WSFA) January 24, 2025
Interstate 65 southbound was cleared shortly before 10 p.m. Tuesday, 10 hours after a deadly crash involving at least 15 vehicles in Butler County.
Greenville Mayor Dexter McLendon confirmed a single death to WSFA 12 News.
Few other details about the crash were immediately available.
The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency said the roadway was cleared around 9:55 p.m., but that the affected stretch of interstate remains impassable because of snow and ice.
The crash happened around 12:15 p.m. near the 122-mile marker.
That’s between Georgiana exit 114 and Greenville/Pine Apple exit 128.
ALEA said the wintry storm system that swept across the state caused significant delays in clearing the road and removing crashed vehicles because of icy conditions.
The Alabama Department of Transportation detoured traffic for hours at Exit 130., which you can see in the video below.
The accident is under investigation.
