MOBILE, Ala. The funding for the Mobile Bridge and Bayway Project which had been approved during the Biden administration was put on hold when Donald Trump took office until it could be reviewed.
Now, in an exciting announcement on Tuesday, $550 million dollars has once again been approved, and the project is officially back on track.
The U.S. transportation secretary announced the department has approved the grant to break ground on the long-awaited project.
The grant is part of more than $3 billion in funding awarded to infrastructure projects around the country.

During the past year, archeologists and others have worked to identify potential historical concerns and recover artifacts and other significant details.
Now, the Alabama Department of Transportation said crews will be testing pilings at six locations along the planned route this month.
ALDOT also confirmed the project will move forward under the Kiewit Massman Traylor team, the joint venture previously chosen to design and build the bridge portion of the project.
According to ALDOT, KMT will conduct a pile load test program between May and August. The testing is not expected to impact Interstate 10 traffic.
Community leaders and business owners in Mobile and Baldwin Counties have expressed excitement in having the new bridge which will relieve traffic congestion and bring new businesses to the area and Mobile Mayor Sandy Stimpson also said that these latest announcements could pave the way for a lot of progress on the project.
More funding is going to be necessary to complete the project and that may come in the form of other grants or loans.
